Steelville Fall Plein Air Event

Huzzah Valley

Huzzah River
8x10 oil

Honorable Mention

Had a wonderful day at the Huzzah Valley Resort just outside of Steelville Missouri.  The weather couldn't have been more perfect.  There were about 30 artists that enjoyed painting today's theme of "water".  I found a spot on a gravel bar on the Huzzah River with the first fall colors in the surrounding trees and the sparkling of sun on the water.   At the judging this evening I was very honored to receive an Honorable Mention.  The paintings from the show will be on display and available for sale at Gallery Zeke in Steelville until November 8th.

Queen Ann's Lace

Wildflowers Everywhere

sold
The weather has been perfect for flowers almost everywhere in Door Co.  Every roadside and shore line has flowers blooming.  This patch of Queen Ann's Lace was growing behind a building next to the parking lot.  Sun was lighting them like a stage set.

The wildflowers are blooming everywhere and this little spot was across from our campground so I had time for one more painting before coming home.

Cook Station

 Cook Station Hay Bales

8x10 oil

Honorable Mention
sold

Honored once again with an award at the Steelville Plein Air Event.  A hot humid sunny day was in store for us and I was in the full sun to paint these bales.  I couldn't pass them up though so I toughed it out.  I had company for most of the time with a friendly stray dog that came by.  She mostly laid down next to my easel and just kept watch.   A nice time for both of us.

3rd Place Award

sold

I was honored to receive 3rd place for my painting.  It was a challenge to find a subject that spoke to me on this morning of the event.  It was misty and rainy so I chose to paint from the park shelter.  The rain was off and on and the light was soft.  When I saw this area at the edge of the lake I liked the pattern it made and the soft greens.

A steady drizzle kept me under shelter.  Luckily I had this lovely bush as a subject.  It was so quiet and peaceful that I had a young doe stop and watch me intently for awhile.  If I'd known she would stop that long I would have tried to put her in the picture.  These are the special moments when painting plein air.

Paint Webster

Deer Creek

plein air oil 6x8
  sold

I'm honored that my painting of Deer Creek won the
Mayor's Choice Award
at the Paint Webster Plein Air Event this year.
The weather was a challenge for all with rain most of the day.  I was fortunate to get the water and the reflections painted before a steady drizzle changed it's surface.
The railroad bridge over Deer Creek is still in use.  As you can see the date on the bridge of 1912 gives it a lot of old fashioned charm.

Cliff Cave Park
This park has such a great variety of subject matter to paint and every season creates more beautiful things to see.  I went there on Saturday and was lucky to see a large number of barges on the river.  I was fortunate that they stayed long enough for me to get this 6x8 painting.

Winter Landscape

Castlewood State Park

This is a studio painting from a photo taken by Shawn Cornell in preparation for his winter workshop this weekend.  We were hoping for snow but the winter landscape without snow is just as challenging.
