A Clearing Sky

It's been cold and cloudy days lately and hard to get out to do plein air painting but for a few brief outings.  Going through some of those quick paintings I remembered this one that was started on a rainy morning under a shelter.  Just as it was about time that I had to leave the sky started clearing up.  I quickly did a few changes to indicate the changed light but was unable to finish the painting at that time.  So I worked on it in the studio this week and think I captured that light effect that I remembered from that day. I love to see the sun peek out after heavy clouds start to depart.

Thanksgiving Time

The week of Thanksgiving was beautiful with mild temps, a sunny sky and no wind.  Perfect for painting outdoors this time of year.  Went to Jefferson Barracks park to see if there were any colorful trees left and to my surprise walked right in front of this scene of golden color still intact.

Fall seemed to be on hold because of the late summer drought with leaves dropping dry and dull, but rain finally came and brought everything back to life.  I spotted an opening along the Grant Trail that gave this view of some older buildings and that one bright orange tree giving fall it's true colors.  It was very windy when I set up my easel to paint this and by the time I finished, that beautiful orange tree was almost bare, clouds were moving in along with dropping temps. Timing is everything!

 A Great Trip

We had a wonderful trip to Colorado, our favorite vacation destination.  Every time we go there we try to see things we haven't seen before.  Every where we go there are new and beautiful things to see.  This scene was along a bike path next to the Animas River.  A perfect spot to paint.

Iris Time

The Iris beds at the Botanical Gardens were in full bloom last week when I met some friends for a beautiful day of painting.  The sun was positioned like a spotlight on all those lovely flowers.

Park Bridge

We've had so much rain and flooding in our area it has been hard to get out to paint.  When we did get a sunny day I took advantage of it.  It's hard to believe this small creek was flash flooding almost up to the bridge just the day before I painted this.  It looked like the Colorado river then instead of this gentle peaceful stream that it normally is.  So glad I caught it on a beautiful sunny day.
