Creek Changes

Heavy Rains

After the Storm
8x10 oil

I started this painting on location and finished it in the studio.  I often paint at Gravois Creek and am always amazed at how much it is constantly changing.  After some flash flooding this bank was washed out and the rich black topsoil exposed.  A new path will now direct the water.

Virtual Plein Air

 Backyard Wild Daisies 5x7 oil

The Webster plein air event has gone virtual this year because of the pandemic.  Even though I haven't done this event in a couple of years I decided to enter this year.  We were encouraged to paint in our own backyards as well as areas of Webster Groves with safe distancing applied.  I decided to stay home and paint in my backyard. The light on the table and the wild daisies were interesting but I knew it wouldn't last long.  I decided to just do a small 5x7 and used some palette knife work on the piece.  The dark green of the cedars made a nice dark background.

Backyard Plein Air

Staying Home

5x7 oil

Spring has sprung everywhere very abundantly.  The wildflowers in our yard are outdoing themselves.  I was amazed at the prolific blooming Yellow Ragwort that borders our concrete table and benches area.  In full sun they looked like a glowing fringe at the edge of the nature setting on our west side yard.  After some rainy days, I was happy to get out to paint in my own backyard.  Staying home isn't so bad after all as long as there's nature to paint!
